What Is an Independent Correctional Centre Visitor (ICCV)?

The Independent Correctional Centre Visitor (ICCV) works with the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services to monitor conditions inside correctional facilities, receive inmate complaints, and promote accountability in South Africa’s correctional system.

The role involves regular visits to correctional centres, reporting concerns, handling complaints, and helping improve prison oversight.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the JICS Independent Correctional Centre Visitor Vacancies 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Grade 12 / Matric Certificate
• Computer literacy
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work under pressure

Added Advantage

• A valid driver’s licence will be beneficial.

Important Requirement

Applicants must include a recommendation or nomination letter from a recognised community organisation, issued within the last six months.

Preference may be given to applicants residing near the correctional centre where the vacancy exists.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful applicants will be expected to:

• Visit correctional centres daily
• Receive and manage inmate complaints
• Monitor prison conditions
• Prepare reports and maintain records
• Engage with inmates and correctional officials
• Report incidents including deaths, segregation, use of force, and inmate concerns
• Assist during inspections and investigations
